HYDRATION STATION 101
It's like music to my ears when I hear people reminding friends, family, strangers... to stay hydrated. A nice reminder saying, "Hello Dear, please take care of yourself" can be greatly appreciated as the summer temps rise into triple digits. So, don't be shy to speak up and tell those around you to drink that H2O!
Did you know, much like caloric and dietary needs, our hydration requirements also change based on how much water we expend..?
Dehydration can be debilitating and really is no laughing matter. Therefore, it is essential that we learn how to take care of ourselves and hydrate properly.
Let’s learn some of the tell-tale signs of dehydration together:
Dark or decreased urine output
Nausea
Diarrhea
Increased thirst
Sticky or dry mouth
Dizziness
Fatigue
Headaches
Irritability
As active and healthy individuals, it's in our best interest to be aware and keep ourselves in balanced hydration before, during, and after our workouts. So, how do we fend off dehydration?
Drink plenty of water throughout the day and for super humid, sweaty temperatures, adding in an electrolyte supplement is not a bad idea. Hydralyte is one product I love because it's scientifically formulated to contain the correct balance of fluid and electrolytes for rapid and effective rehydration. Carefully formulated by a team of clinical health professionals, Hydralyte is not like any other rehydration product. It is convenient to toss in a gym bag or purse and is suitable for the whole family. Plus, it gives us a chance to rehydrate without the excess sugar.
Some other tips to stay hydrated include staying out of direct sunlight, keeping cool with water all day long, and paying attention to the body.
Remember to be kind to your body. It will thank you for it.
