Why I'm Shipping Out of Boston

When I moved to the city three years ago with my then fiance, now husband,

I had no idea what was in store.

Having never lived in a city before, and moving from beautiful Syracuse, NY, I freaked out when my lifestyle suddenly changed from living off farm fresh produce and hikes on the weekends to public transportation and loudness, practically all the time.

I mean, even as I write this now at 2am, there are construction trucks outside my window, sounding like a dentist drill that even my ear plugs, noise cancelling headphones and pillow won't drown out!

I wish I could tell you, it got better, or I got more used to being a city goer as time passed.

But the truth is, I have struggled to stay positive, focused, and present in an atmosphere constantly stimulated by people. Many of whom, it seems like, don't give a flying fuck about their health (picture breathing in secondhand cigarette smoke every time you go outside-- a nightmare for an asthmatic!).

Hang with me here..

Since deciding to move out of Boston, I have opened up to my friends, clients, even strangers on my reasons behind it. And from sharing my own stories, realized that I'm not alone in needing a break from living this way.

I hope this post sheds some light on my own why behind getting out, and maybe will resonate with you and provide some empowerment to make a change for your own optimal well being. You deserve the best for you!

#1 Stress - This is a huge factor since I am one to get easily stressed out from the get go, anyway. Endless construction, unstable people, noise and toxic pollution all add up. When you're living in a small space, no car, and really nowhere to escape to it can make dealing with the stress very difficult.

#2 $$$ - Between rent, a modest social life, groceries for the week, and transportation, I have watched my bank account dwindle, which makes me very, very sad.

#3 Work - This is another can of worms in and of itself. I'm lucky that eventually, after a year of searching for jobs post graduate degree, I found something fulfilling. However, putting my blood, sweat and tears into a non profit doesn't help point #2.

You can see how my own work-life balance is a little off kilter, and I intend to re calibrate that with my move.

I do want to finish off with the positives of living here because the ups have certainly helped balance the lows.

#1 Amazing Yoga - keep your eyes open for a follow up post with my favorite Boston yoga studios.

#2 Great Food - another post on this will be coming your way.

#3 People and Community - between my Balanced Bod of Boston facebook group, Boston bloggers, and taking classes with like minded others, I fell in love with the strong sense of connection between people.

Building my own online and in person community has allowed me to stay in touch with clients from different places I have lived. So, if you would like to stay connected with a community of people who care about health and wellness, stay tuned for my next events, follow along on social media, and maybe even sign up for online training with me. I plan on being in Boston next on September 9th in Copley Square for the Fit University Back to School Blowout, and would love to see you there!
